    Harry Gerard (Buzz or H.G.) Bissinger III was born November 1st, 1954 in New York City.

He graduated from Phillips Academy in 1972 and went on to attend the Univeristy of Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in Journalism in 1976. While attending the University, Bissinger was the sports editor of the local paper.

His Journalism career started at the Ledger-Star paper in Norfolk,Virginia. He moved on, then writing for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and then the Philadelphia Inquirer. While Writing for the Inquirer in 1987 he won the Pulitzer Prize for writing an investigative series on the Philadelphia Court System.
