UTRGV Names La Fontaine Inaugural Dean Of School Of Podiatric Medicine
Dr. Javier La Fontaine has been appointed the inaugural dean of the UTRGV School of Podiatric Medicine (SOPM), effective July 1, 2022.
La Fontaine has served as associate dean of Academic Affairs for the SOPM since January and played an integral role in the school being granted candidacy by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME).
The Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) program has also been approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
“This is an exciting time for the Rio Grande Valley, the state of Texas and the nation as we begin the journey to prepare the next generation of podiatric medicine leaders,” said La Fontaine.
UTRGV is now the first university in Texas and one of only 10 in the nation ready to prepare and graduate Doctors of Podiatric Medicine.
